*** What's Real? ***

I sit at my computer, all day I punch these keys,
Typing, it's like I never stop, but I still never get where I ought to be.
This is not what I want from life, I have to get out sometime.
I can not stand this every day, this uphill corporate climb.

When you don't see one person all day long,
When your hard drive crashes and your work's all gone,
When you're locked inside an office before the break of dawn,
How do you know what's real?

Sometimes things just don't work out, that's what you heard her say.
First you try to convince yourself that you didn't need her anyway.
But in your heart you know the truth, you're helpless and you're scared.
You think back on your times with her, and you wonder if she ever cared.

When your greatest hopes disappear before your eyes,
When it seems that all you've heard from her is lies,
When you're all alone and you don't know why,
How do you know what's real?

How can you know what is true and what's just fantasy?
When you need some help discerning this, then I'm not the man to see
'Cause I'm probably more confused than you about this crazy, mixed-up place.
I don't know what to do no more, I'm a friggin' basketcase.

When your stockbroker makes ten thousand from a grand,
When in the dead of winter, you can get a tan,
When your cyberspace vixen just might be a man,
How do you know what's real?
